Simple Human Trash Can

I know it's sad that this makes it on my list of favorite things, but with a walking baby (finally walking all the time now that crawling isn't much faster) and a curious dog, this thing is fabulous!

Let me start at the beginning.  We were keeping our kitchen waste basket in the garage because the dog loves dragging out garbage.  It's not very convenient, to say the least.  So Saturday's goal, along with a few other errands, was to find a suitable replacement.  We first headed to Target to find the perfect kitchen garbage receptacle.  They had a small stainless steel step can that I thought would look nice.  My husband would keep a 30 gallon utility can in the kitchen if he could, but I want something smaller that needs to be emptied often.  Since I have enough stainless steel surfaces in my kitchen that require finger print removal, I opened the box to see if the can would require the same upkeep.  It did, so we passed on it.  It was also a bit small at 10 liters for $39.99.  There were three other people in the trashcan aisle, too, and one said, "Try Bed, Bath and Beyond.  They are cheaper."

So we came home, and I did my internet research.  The Target can that we almost purchased had 39 reviews and ONE STAR!  Thank goodness we passed on it!  Then I came across this beaut:
It's the simplehuman 50-liter Semi Round Step Can.  It has a stainless lock and stainless step, the rest is heavy duty plastic.  It has a five year warranty.  And the lock actually works!  Neither the dog nor the baby can get into the can.  Wahooo!  Amazing that something like a trashcan can make your life so much easier.  Even better- it was the same price as the silly stainless steel one from Target.  49.99 with my 20% off coupon brought it to $42 including tax.  Pretty good.
